The FDA has approved a new drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It’s called Stendra. It’s one of the newer erectile dysfunction drugs on the market. It’s also a medication that is supposed to work fast — faster than most ED drugs.

It’s not a permanent solution to erectile dysfunction, but it can help men get an erection when they want to have sex.

What does it do, and how well does it work? Well, in this article, we’ll tell you all you need to know.

What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Impeding men from achieving and maintaining a firm erection is defined as erectile dysfunction (impotence). Erection problems aren’t necessarily concerning every once in a while, but if they persist, it can lead to stress, affect your self-confidence, and cause problems with relationships. Erection problems can also indicate an underlying health condition that needs treatment and may be associated with heart disease.

What are the Causes of Erectile Dysfunction?

Many men with erectile dysfunction (ED) don’t have a clear understanding of the causes. This is often because the symptoms are so common that they are hard to notice.

Erectile dysfunction is caused by a combination of biological, psychological, and social factors. Some of these factors are inherited, and some are related to lifestyle choices such as diet, exercise, smoking, alcohol, and drug use.

Sometimes, erection problems may result from a physical problem, such as a disease or injury to the penis, blood vessels, or nerves.

What is Stendra?

What is Stendra

Stendra is a prescription medicine that’s used to treat Erectile Dysfunction (ED). It is a phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitor that works by increasing blood flow to the penis by relaxing the muscles in the blood vessels of the penis. Stendra is available in a tablet or injection form. Furthermore, Stendra can be used to treat premature ejaculation, low libido, and other problems that occur during sexual intercourse.

Taking Stendra in conjunction with certain other medications may result in a sudden and severe drop in blood pressure. If you are taking riociguat (Adempas) or a nitrate medication such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, or isosorbide mononitrate, you should not take avanafil at the same time.

If you experience dizziness or nausea while engaging in sexual activity, or if you experience pain, numbness, or tingling in your chest, arms, neck, or jaw, stop immediately and contact your doctor. It’s possible that you’re experiencing a serious side effect.

If you experience sudden vision loss while using Stendra, discontinue use and seek emergency medical attention. In some cases, Avanafil can cause a decrease in blood flow to the optic nerve of the eye, resulting in temporary vision loss. This has happened in a small number of people who were taking a medication that was similar to sildenafil (Viagra). The majority of these people also had heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or certain pre-existing eye problems, and this was especially true in those who smoked or were over the age of 50.

This medication should not be taken more than once a day. Allow at least 24 hours to elapse between each dose. If your erection is painful or lasts longer than 4 hours, contact your doctor or seek emergency medical attention. A prolonged erection (also known as priapism) can cause damage to the penis.

Stendra Side Effects

Stendra Side Effects

As a safe and effective medication, it is associated with only a few side effects, none of which are particularly common.

Headaches are the most common side effect of Avanafil (Stendra), and will be experienced by around 10 percent of men who take the drug.

Because Stendra works in the same way as other PDE5 inhibitors, such as Viagra and Cialis, its side effects will be these medications. The following are some of the most common Avanafil (Stendra) side effects:

  • Headaches
  • Flushing
  • Nasal congestion
  • Back Pain

As a result of Stendra’s more selective effects on the PDE5 enzyme, it is less likely to cause some of the common side effects in older drugs.

According to one study, up to 11 percent of men who take Viagra at the highest 100mg dose report vision problems, compared to less than one percent of men who take Stendra at the same dose.

While Stendra is active in your body, it can cause a mild decrease in your blood pressure levels, similar to other available ED medications.

The use of Stendra is not recommended if you are currently taking nitrates to treat hypertension or other cardiovascular health conditions.

These medications may interact with Stendra and cause a significant drop in blood pressure, resulting in fainting, a heart attack, or a stroke.

As with other PDE5 inhibitors, Stendra and similar agents may interact with certain alpha-blockers and CYP3A4 inhibitors.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Stendra. Some of the symptoms of an allergic reaction to Stendra include: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Because of this, it’s important to inform your healthcare provider about all medications you currently use when you’re discussing Stendra as an ED treatment option.

Stendra is, overall, a safe and effective treatment for erectile dysfunction that has been proven to work. Despite the fact that side effects do occur in a small percentage of men who take the medication, they are typically mild and occur less frequently than with older, first-generation male erection-inducing medications.

Stendra Vs Viagra (And Other ED Medication)

Stendra vs Viagra

After years of development, Stendra was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2012. As a result, it is the most recent erectile dysfunction medication to be introduced to the public. In contrast, Cialis and Levitra were both approved by the FDA in 2003, whereas Viagra was approved in 1998.

In other words, Stendra is much newer than the first generation of erectile dysfunction treatments. There are several significant differences between Stendra and the first generation of ED medications, including the following:

  • Stendra Works Faster: Stendra is known for working more quickly. Most first-generation ED medications take between 30 and 60 minutes to begin working. The time it takes Viagra to become fully effective can be longer than 60 minutes in some circumstances, such as after a large meal. As little as 15 minutes may elapse between the administration of the 100mg and 200mg doses of Stendra, they can be administered closer to the time you plan to have sex. Even the lower 50mg dose of Stendra can be taken 30 minutes before sex without causing any side effects.
  • Stendra Works Longer: Stendra has a longer duration of action than some ED medications. Even though it does not have the same long-lasting effects as medications such as Cialis, Stendra has a slightly longer half-life than Viagra, which allows it to provide relief from ED symptoms for up to six hours at a time. Stendra also has fewer side effects. Although Stendra does not come without side effects, they are significantly less severe than those associated with first-generation ED treatments. Furthermore, it is less likely to cause side effects associated with impaired vision and low blood pressure. This is due to the fact that Stendra is designed to specifically target the PDE5 enzyme, with little or no effect on the other PDE enzymes in the body.
  • Stendra Works With Food: Food has less of an impact on Stendra. If you eat a large meal or foods high in fat before using first-generation ED treatments, they may take longer to start working — or are less effective. Stendra is less affected by food intake than other ED medications, so you’ll get the full effect even if you take it after a big meal.
  • Stendra is Safe With Alcohol: Stendra can be taken with or without alcohol — very much in contrast to first-generation ED treatments like Viagra (sildenafil, generic Viagra). Although you should still limit your alcohol consumption if you plan to use Stendra, you can consume up to three servings without significantly increasing your risk of side effects.

There are many different erectile dysfunction treatments available. Most men will need to try more than one type of medication before finding one that works for them. The decision to try Stendra or another ED treatment will be a very personal one, and you’ll want to weigh the benefits and risks of each medication.

Although Stendra is a newer erectile dysfunction treatment, it has several significant advantages over older medications. Its many benefits over first-generation ED medications make it a great option for anyone suffering from the condition. However, it is important to note that Stendra should not be used as a substitute for a medical evaluation if you are experiencing symptoms of erectile dysfunction.

Because Stendra is so effective, it is often used as a treatment for premature ejaculation, too. In fact, Stendra has been shown to increase sexual stamina, making it a great choice for men who are experiencing all kinds of sexual dysfunction.
